TISSNET (Tata Institute of Social Sciences National Entrance Test) is a national-level computer-based test administered by Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. Aspirants seeking admission to its BA/MA/Ph.D. programs should appear for the TISS-NET exam. The main aim behind this entrance exam is to get students admitted into its 52 reputed Master’s Degree Programs organized across its several campuses located at: Mumbai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Tuljapur.

TISSNET Exam Syllabus

Three main sections of TISSNET exam are:

  1. MATHEMATICAL & LOGICAL REASONING
    1. Mathematics
      Profit & Loss, Averages, Time- Distance-Speed-Work, Percentages, Basic Geometry.
    2. Logical Reasoning
      Puzzles, Cubes, Logical Connectivity, Number Series, Alphabet Series, Assumption/ Arguments/ Statement Conclusion, Venn Diagram, Coding-Decoding, Directions, Blood Relations.
    3. Data Interpretation
      Line Graphs, Pie Chart, Double pie chart, Case lets, Incorrect Information, Missing Information, Bar graphs, Tables, Data Comparison, Histogram, Bar Charts.
  2. ENGLISH PROFICIENCY
    1. Verbal Ability
      Correct use of words in match the following, Fill in the blanks, Analogies- Alphabetical, Idioms, Homophones, Error spotting- Words/Grammar/Punctuation, Sentence Correction, Synonyms, Antonyms, Homonyms, Odd one out.
    2. Reading Comprehension
      Passage based questions, Author’s point of view, Purpose of the passage, Assumption and supporting statements, Comparison, and Contrast, Inference and conclusion drawn
  3. GENERAL AWARENESS
    1. General Knowledge
      National and International Events, Finance, Budget, Defence, Military related, Corporate Events and Awards, National/International Awards in Entertainment Industry, Social and Environmental Causes.
    2. General Awarenes
      Current Events, International Politics, Economics, Labor, Politics, History, Governance, Law, Sports, Social Studies, Gender, Education, Environment, and Ecology.

Exam Pattern

TISSNET Exam comprises 3 sections

  • General Aptitude
  • Mathematics & Logical Reasoning
  • English Proficiency
  • The test duration is 100 minutes (1 hour 40 minutes).
  • For each correct answer candidate receives 1 mark.
  • For incorrect answers, there is no negative marking.
  • Multiple choice questions (MCQs) comprise 4 answer choices.
  • No sectional time limit nor any sectional cut-off.

If candidates seeking admission in MA (HRM & LR) or MA (ODCL), they will have to appear for TISSMAT 2023 EXAM.

TISSMAT paper pattern is quite different compared to that of TISS-NET. The major difference is of marking. In TISSMAT exam paper, each question carries 1 mark whereas reduction of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer.

Exam Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for attempting TISSNET is as follows:

  • Age Limit
    There is no age barrier for appearing for TISS-NET.
  • Qualification
    Candidates with Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree or equivalent from a recognized university. Candidates pursuing their final year of graduation and would complete it by June 2023 can also apply.
    Candidates need to provide original certificates and mark-sheets during personal interviews. Candidates in the final year of the degree program need to provide mark sheets of all previous semesters.
  • Nationality
    Candidates of any nationality can apply for TISS-NET.
  • Work Experience
    Candidates with some or no experience can apply for TISSNET but when applying for Master of Arts (Organization Development, Change and Leadership) should have at least 2 years of work experience after graduation (in any field).

Papers

To ace the TISSNET 2023 exam, you need to have a proper preparation plan. As there is no negative marking, it offers a good chance to score maximum in all the sections. Good TISSNET preparation should include:

Work on your vocabulary and grammar part:
To enhance your performance in this section, make a habit of reading daily, newspapers, magazines, books, etc. Practice at least 2 RC passages each day.

Regarding Mathematics:
Focus on understanding the fundamental concepts of Geometry, Arithmetic, etc. Practice, practice, and practice to boost your speed and accuracy in the section.

For DI and LR:
Practice TISSNET’s previous year’s papers as much as you can as there are no specific rules and formulas in this section.

For General Knowledge:
Of course, when you’ll read newspapers each day the general knowledge will improve automatically. Apart from that learn about previous histories too.

Mock Tests

Once you are well versed with all the topics, do not forget to test your knowledge. Attempt as many TISSNET mock tests as possible to assess your strong and weak points. Further, devise an exam strategy that helps you gain a good score.
