Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) exam is a management aptitude test conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). The exam is held for students seeking admission to MBA in International Business. The course is offered by IIFT Delhi, Kolkata, Kakinada.
This is an online national level exam conducted in the form of Computer Based Test (CBT) and is held once in a year for the duration of 2 hours.

IIFT Exam Syllabus

NTA (National Testing Agency) does not officially release the IIFT syllabus. Thus, based on IIFT’s previous years paper, the following topics are squeezed in and the syllabus can be inferred as:

VARC:

Reading comprehension, Vocabulary, Synonyms, Antonyms, Sentence reconstruction, Sentence formation, Analogies, Idioms and Phrases, One word substitution, prepositions, fill in the blanks, phrases, para jumbles, odd word out.

DILR:

Charts (Pie and Bar), Tables, Line Graph, Decision making, Verbal Logic, Blood Relations, Data structures, Series, Syllogisms, Coding-Decoding, Cause & Effect, Puzzles, Linear & Matrix Arrangements, Family Tree Problem, Visual & Critical Reasoning, Statement & Conclusion.

Quantitative Aptitude

HCF & LCM, Number System, Trigonometry, Averages, Compound Interest, Median, Coordinate Geometry, Set Theory, Logarithm, Venn Diagram, Ratio & Proportion, Algebra, Mensuration, Probability, Clocks, Time-Speed-Distance.

General Knowledge

History, Politics, Books & Authors, Awards & Awardees, Business, Science, Technology, Geography, Industry, International Affairs, Economy, Sports, Advertising.

Exam Pattern

IIFT 2023 EXAM: IMPORTANT DATES

Below mentioned are the tentative dates of the IIFT exam. Please keep note of it.

Usually, IIFT exam papers vary each year. But the purpose is similar to that of any other MBA entrance test. For the last three years, IIFT followed the same exam pattern.

MODE OF EXAMINATION: Online

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTIONS: English

TYPES OF QUESTIONS: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

SECTIONS:

  1. Quantitative Aptitude (QA)
  2. Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC)
  3. Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation (LRDI)
  4. General Knowledge (GK)

TOTAL NUMBER OF QUESTIONS: 110

TIME DURATION: 2 hours (120 minutes)

GUIDELINES FOR IIFT EXAM PAPER

  • Exam will be conducted in CBT mode only.
  • No individual sectional time limit, students can attempt and switch between sections as per their comfort level.
  • No on-screen calculator allowed.
  • GK section comprises mainly two sections: Static GK and current affairs
  • DI section requires more calculation compared to that of QA.

Exam Eligibility

IIFT 2023 eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree of a minimum 3 years duration or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Candidates from the General category should have minimum 50% marks in graduation whereas candidates from SC/ST/PwD category should have 45% marks.
  • Final year students can also apply for IIFT by submitting the proof of requisite qualification by October 2023.
  • There is no age bracket to appear for the exam.

IIFT REGISTRATION PROCESS

For IIFT exam registration, candidates need to visit the official website iift.nta.nic.in, Tab ‘Apply for IIFT MBA (IB) 2023-25′ appears, click on it and select new registration and follow below mentioned 3 steps:

  1. Register
    Candidates need to fill out the basic information in the registration form and submit it. Once the form is submitted successfully. A candidate receives the registration number and password via email (provided in the form).
    Please ensure that the email id and contact number inserted are valid as well as the details are correct as these cannot be amended later.
  2. Application form
    With the help of login credentials enter it and choose a security question. Note down the system-generated application number. Log in again. Access the application form. Fill in your required personal and academic details. Upload photo, certificates, and signature.
  3. Payment
    Make payment through debit/credit card, e-wallet, or net banking. Once done, you’ll receive the payment confirmation at your registered email address.

Important Documents NRI Or Candidates From Foreign Nationality Must Enclose:

Below is the list of documents that should be enclosed along with the application form:

  • Filled in CV form
  • GMAT Score (latest)
  • All attested academic mark sheets/certificates (Class 10, 12, and graduation)
  • Copy of all passport pages
  • An undertaking from the candidate that s/he has not appeared for any MBA entrance test for the current year.
  • Two recommendation letters, one from the current manager and another from a head that can evaluate the candidate’s managerial and leadership quality.
  • Indian nationals should be able to produce a certificate from the Indian Embassy or high commission that he or she has been resident of that country for at least 18 months as of 31st2023

IIFT ADMIT CARD

Usually, IIFT admit cards are released by the mid of November month. Candidates can download the admit card from the official website iift.nta.nic.in.

Candidates need to log in with the application number and password or application number and Date of birth.

IIFT 2023 Admit card button will appear on the screen, click it and download it.

Do take a printout of the admit card for future reference.

IIFT 2023 Admit card will include details like:

  • Personal details (E.g.- name of the candidate)
  • Exam venue
  • Date and timings of IIFT exam
  • Instructions for IIFT 2023 exam

THINGS TO CARRY DURING THE EXAM

  • Print out the admit card.
  • Photo ID proof (Aadhaar card, Driving license, PAN card, Passport, or PAN card).

IIFT EXAM DAY GUIDELINES

  • Exam timings of IIFT 2023 are 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
  • Reach IIFT Center 2 hours before the exam.
  • Carry printout of IIFT admit card.
  • Carry passport size photo to paste in attendance sheet (same as uploaded before).
  • Carry photo ID proof (Adhar card, Election card, PAN card, Driving License)

Don’ts

  • Late entry is not allowed.
  • Electronic items such as calculators, and digital watches are not allowed.

IIFT 2023 ANSWER KEY

Once the exam gets over, after a few days the IIFT releases the answer keys for candidates to summarize their performance. Candidates can download the answer key as well as the response sheet from the exam website by using their login credentials. Follow the below steps:

  • Open it.nta.ac.in
  • Click – ‘IIFT answer key-response sheet’ tab
  • Fill in the application number and date of birth
  • Then log in.
  • Click on the table, download, and save the PDF format.

 If a candidate has any objection to the answer key, they can raise the issue by filling out an online form and need to upload the document of proof in support of their claim.

To challenge the IIFT answer key, the window is open for four days.

If the claims are found valid, the answer key is revised and released.

IIFT 2023 RESULT

IIFT 2023 exam results are declared on the NTA-IIFT website by the beginning of February month. Steps to download IIFT result:

  • Open iift.nta.ac.in
  • Click- ‘IIFT 2023 NTA Scorecard’
  • Fill in the application number and date of birth
  • Submit
  • Click- ‘IIFT 2023 Scorecard’
  • Download and print.

The scorecard includes the following details:

  • Candidate’s name
  • Roll Number
  • Category
  • Photo
  • Sectional Scores
  • Overall Score
  • Overall Percentile

Once the IIFT results are out, the merit list of the candidates is prepared according to the marks obtained by them in the test and then uploaded on the official website. Candidates from the merit list will be allowed to participate in essay writing, group discussion, and personal interview.

IIFT CUT-OFFS

Cut-off is the minimum score required to qualify for group discussion and personal interview for IIFT admission. For the second round of IIFT admission, candidates are shortlisted only based on both sectional and overall cut-offs.

Points to note:

  • IIFT cut-offs differ for each IIFT campus- Delhi, Kolkata, and Kakinada
  • Cut-offs are released both sections as well as category wise.

Cut-off for IIFT is determined on the following aspects:

  • Number of candidates who attempted IIFT exam
  • Number of candidates who cleared the exam
  • Difficulty level of the exam
  • Number of seats available at three campuses of IIFT.

IIFT 2023 ADMISSION AND SELECTION PROCESS

IIFT Admission process is divided into 4 steps:

  1. IIFT Exam
  2. Essay Writing
  3. Group Discussion
  4. Personal Interview

When the IIFT exam is over and the candidates clear the IIFT cut-offs, they are called for essay writing, group discussion, and personal interview.

  1. IIFT Exam
    Candidates are screened on the basis of their IIFT scores. NRI candidates and foreign nationals are shortlisted for interviews on the basis of their GMAT scores.
  2. Essay Writing
    Candidates are given topics related to general or business affairs.
    Minimum words- 300
    Time allotted- 20 minutes.
  3. Group Discussion (GD)
    Candidates are grouped in 10-12 numbers.
    Give a topic to discuss and present.
    Here candidates are judged based on how they initiate, communicate, and how nicely they present their ideas.
  4. Personal Interview (PI)
    Here panelists personally ask questions to the candidates whereas the final outcome is communicated through email.
    Eligibility criteria and certificates are verified at the time of interview. Hence, candidates should have all the essential documents at the time of interview.

Please note: Due to Covid outbreak, essay writing and GD have not been conducted since 2020.

Each year around 75,000 students appear for IIFT exam but only 1200-1400 students can be shortlisted across all the branches. The IIFT 2024 exam has been canceled, and now, admission will be granted based on CAT 2023 scores. This decision was announced on August 10, 2023. Starting from 2024 and onwards, only CAT exam scores will be considered for admission

Yes, it is mandatory for all aspiring candidates to possess a valid CAT 2023 score if they wish to apply for admission to IIFT’s MBA (IB) and MBA (BA) programs for the Academic Year 2024–25.
