GDPI WAT

CMAT 2024 selection process will be conducted in three stages:

CMAT Score/ Merit List

On the basis of CMAT score, B-schools shortlist candidates for the final admission round.  Each participating institute releases a separate list of shortlisted candidates. Based on the list, candidates need to appear for the selection process on the mentioned day, date, and place.

Group Discussion

During the first round of group discussion:

Firstly, shortlisted candidates are given a topic for discussion based on any business situation or current affairs.

Later, the candidates are grouped into 10. Then a topic is allotted to an individual group. As the group discussion begins, candidates are judged on the basis of their:

  • Initiating skill
  • Negotiation skills
  • Creative and logical thinking
  • Encouragement skill
  • Real-life synopsis
  • Managerial skill
  • Leadership qualities
  • Concluding skill

Written Ability Test (WAT) or Personal Interview

Candidates who qualify for the group discussion are further called for a written ability test or personal interview or both.

During WAT, each candidate is given a topic to write their views or essay on within the prescribed time. This round enables the examiner to assess a candidate’s awareness of current affairs, their opinion on a particular issue as well as their writing skill.

They are judged on their critical thinking skill, analytical skills, and grammar usage. Thus, candidates are advised to read newspapers and important magazines on a daily basis.

During a personal interview, candidates are judged based on the below-mentioned parameters:

  • Personality
  • Confidence
  • Communication
  • Explanation of past academic record
  • Prior work experience
  • Creativity and innovation

At times, the interviewer may ask a question that puts the interviewee under stress. This is again to judge if the candidate can face the pressure test.

The final selection of the candidate is done on the basis of the candidate’s performance in all the above-mentioned stages. Then a final merit list is prepared. Final candidates receive a call letter from the institute or the list may also be uploaded on the institute’s website.
