What is CLAT in law?

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a centralised national-level entrance test for admissions to 24 National Law Universities (NLU) in India. CLAT is conducted by a consortium of NLUs for admissions to undergraduate as well as post-graduate courses offered by participating NLUs. CLAT Exam is also organised for granting admission in Integrated L.L.B and L.L.M courses.

The UG CLAT syllabus comprises of five sections – English Language, Current Affairs including GK, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude

CLAT Exam Syllabus & Pattern

CLAT Exam consist of the following subjects;

Subject wise

1) English Language

This subject will require you to prove your understanding and proficiency in the language, which includes your ability to:

  • Learn and understand the primary aspect of the passage and any arguments or perspectives presented or discussed in the passage.
  • Make inferences and draw conclusions based on the passage.
  • Recapitulate the passage;
  • Examine and compare the various arguments or perspectives presented in the passage.
  • Learn the meanings of different words and phrases that are used throughout the text.
2) Current Affairs (with GK)

It consists of passages of up to 450 words each. These passages are derived from sources such as news, journalism as well as other writing that is nonfiction. The questions could comprise the analysis of legal knowledge or information that is discussed in or relating to the text, but they would need no additional understanding of the law other than the text.

Each chapter is followed by a set of questions that require you to show your knowledge of different aspects of the current situation and general knowledge. This includes:

  • Recent events that are significant in India and across the world;
  • Culture and arts;
  • International matters and
  • The significance of historical events is not lost.
3) Legal Reasoning

A comprehension-type passage comprising 450 words each, followed by questions of an objective type.

Real-life scenarios or situations involving legal issues, public policy questions, or moral questions.

Important areas to focus on;

  • A General Awareness of current moral and legal questions.
  • Recognize and understand the rules and concepts outline within the paragraph.
  • Apply the rules and principles to various facts
  • Understanding how changes to rules or the principles could alter their application to different circumstances.
4) Logical Reasoning

Objective questions based on passages on arguments and sets such as puzzles, diagrams, relationships and more.

Skills to be evaluated;

Ability to discern arguments and their premises, and draw conclusions

The ability to critically analyze patterns of reasoning and evaluate how conclusions could be based on specific premises or other evidence

Find out what is in the passage, and apply these inferences to different scenarios.

Make connections and draw analogies.

Find contradictions and equivalences, and evaluate the efficacy of arguments.

5) Quantitative Aptitude

The Quantitative Techniques portion of the UG-CLAT 2025 exam will comprise brief sets of facts, graphs, propositions, or other visual, textual or graphic representations of numeric data and a set of questions. You’ll be expected to draw information from such passages, graphs or other representations and perform mathematical operations on this information.

The questions will need you to:

  • Deduce, infer, and manipulate the numerical information that is presented in these passages, graphs or other representations and
  • Use a variety of mathematical operations to these data, ranging from areas like proportions and ratios, basic algebra, statistical estimation and mensuration.

CLAT Exam Eligibility 2025

  • The latest regulations established by the Consortium Age Limit for CLAT do not constitute any entry requirement for the CLAT Exam.
  • Any Candidate, regardless of age, can apply to take CLAT in the year 2025, if they qualify for the basic requirements.
  • Candidates who plan to pursue a law degree from one of the best NLUs must verify the eligibility criteria with CLAT Eligibility 2025 before applying for the form.
  • The CLAT eligibility Criteria 2025 will determine whether candidates are competent to take the exam or not.
  • The CLAT Exam requirements include eligibility criteria based on what is the age limit, education qualifications or work experience and UG and Eligibility Criteria of the candidate.
  • Candidates must go through their CLAT Exam pattern 2025 and study the most important subjects.

CLAT Mocks Schedule | Academic Year 2023-2024

CLAT Mock for CLAT 2023 will be divided into two types:

  • Life Time (LT) Mock-CLAT LT Mocks once opened can be attempted at any time as per your convenience.
    The tests will be made available at 12:00 pm on the test date.
  • Limited Edition (LE)Mock -LE Mocks will be opened for Only 2 Days – schedule. In case you miss the test, it dissappears from your portal and can only be given at reopen date.

All the LifeTime CLAT Mock and Limited Edition CLAT Mocks before 2023 Notification will follow the pattern of Clat 2022. Any changes in the pattern will be mplemented in the mocks that are scheduled after the CLAT 2023 Notification.
